Battles and Wars of India
First Battle of Panipat(1526): Babur defeated Ibrahim Lodhi. This laid the foundation of Mughal rule in India.
Battle of Haldi Ghati(1526): Akbar defeated Rana Partap, the brave Rajput king who had refused to acknowledge Akbar’s suzerainty. The latter had to take refuge in remote fortresses.
Second Battle of Panipat(1556): Akbar defeated Hemi. It ended the Afghan Rule and the way was cleared for the Mughal rule.
Battle of Plassey(1757): The British under Lord Clive defeated Sirajud Daulah.It laid the foundation of the British Rule in India.
Third Battle of Panipat(1761): Ahmed Shah Abdali defeated the Maratha. The Maratha power suffered an irreparable loss.
Battle of Buxer(1764): The British force under Sri Hector Munro defeated the Muslim army under three Mohammadan Leaders. (Mir Rasim, Shuja-ud-daullha, and Shah Alam II). The Battle made the British supreme in India.
Burmese War (1885): In this war, the whole of Burma was occupied by the English and made a part of India.
Indo-China War(1962): India was under heavy pressure from the enemy. A unilateral ceasefire was declared by China.
Indo-Pak war(1965): This was Pakistan’s third attack on India An indecisive war between India and Pakistan. It led to ‘Tashkent Pact’between the countries.
Indo-Pak War(1971): Indian forces in a joint command with Bangladesh Army accepted the surrender to the Pak Army in Bangla Desh. War in the Western sector came to an end as a result of a ceasefire on Dec 17, Bangla Desh was Liberated.
