Growth and Development

Growth and Development

Growth usually indicates physical development like height and weight. It means the increase and enlargement of the body or some parts of the body. This also means that which can be observed and measured in quantitative terms.
Ordinarily, these changes occur. More during the early phase of life unto adolescence. Growth ceases to be observable when an individual reaches a certain age and stage. One does not grow vertically after 18 or 19 years. But one might grow laterally, particularly you are fond of good food.

Development means more advancement, greater enfoldment, and going forward to greater maturity. It refers to changes over time which is not subject to quantitative measurement but expresses themselves through certain behavior patterns.

Growth Development
The term growth is used purely in the physical sense. It generally refers to an increase in size, length, height, and weight. Changes in the quantitative aspect come into the domain of growth. Development implies overall changes in shape form or structure resulting in improved working or functionally. It indicates the changes in the quality or character rather than in quantitative aspects.
Growth is one of the parts of the developmental process. In a strict sense, development in its quantitative aspect is termed as growth. It is narrow. Development is a wider and comprehensive term. It refers to overall changes in the individual. Growth is one of its parts.
Growth describes the changes that take place in particular aspects of the body and behavior of the organism. Development described the changes in the organism as a whole and does not list the changes in parts.
Maturity is the endpoint of growth. It does not continue throughout life. Development does not end with the attainment of maturity. It is a continuous process. It goes from the womb to the tomb. The change continues throughout the life span of an individual.
Usually, growth contributes to developments, but not always. A child may be heavier and fat, but this growth may not be accompanied by any direction. Development may be possible without any significant growth. It is a  fact that some children do not grow in size but they do develop ability.
Growth is structural but the structure is of no use apart from its functioning. Development is functional but the function is a meaningless term without structure.
