Meaning of Psychology

A study of soul psychology is a combination of two words psyche and logos. Psyche means ‘Soul whereas; logos mean ‘talk’ Combining these two psychology is talk of the soul but later on it was decided to rename it as ‘study of the soul’ due to the reasons. Study means established knowledge and systematic study, which is based on empirical facts. So psychology becomes ‘study of souls’.

Meaning of Educational Psychology

We are mainly concerned with Educational Psychology, which uses the scientific principle of psychology in education and in the classroom in a subpart of applied psychology on teaching-learning. When knowledge of Psychology is applied in the field of education, it is known as Educational Psychology. Skinner’s Views: Teaching and learning are the most important problems and Educational Psychology deals with it.

Trow’s View: It explains the study of the psychological aspect of educational situations.

Crow & Crow’s View: It explains the learning experiences of an individual from birth to death.

Judd’s View: It is the science, which explains the changes that take place in an individual under various conditions.

Peel’s View: it deals with the nature of learning and process, the process of learning in relation to society.

Lester Anderson’s View: Educational psychology is an academic discipline, which focuses on human behavior. Investigations are made, information is discovered, hypotheses are tested and observations are generalized into theories of educational psychology.
