Simple Equation

Equation

An equation is a statement of equality between two algebraic expressions called members. If the equation is of a first degree then it is called linear equations.
To solve an equation means to find the value of the variable which satisfies it. A value that satisfies an equation is called a root of the equation.

Problems Based on Simple Equations

We translate problems expressed in words into an equation in the following way:
1. Let the known quantity be taken as x, y, z, etc.
2. Express the conditions of the problem into a mathematical language.
3. Solve the equation obtained in step to obtain the value of the unknown.
